[Charity Event] Dixonlicious a delicious fundraiser for Dixon Hall

Event:  #Dixonlicious Fundraiser for Dixon Hall
When: Wednesday, March 29, 2017
Where: Daniels Spectrum at 585 Dundas Street East
What: An evening of delicious food and beverage, musical entertainment, and a live and silent auction
Website:  www.dixonhall.org
Why: Proceeds support vital programs that provide food for people in need

For over 85 years Dixon Hall agency has served many people with support to many community organizations.  With proceeds from fundraising events like #DIXONLICIOUS they are able to feed homeless individuals and isolated seniors and also provide help to in need youth.  They provide funds for Out of the Cold programs, HIV/AIDS, Summer camps and more.  They provided 66,000 meals to people in need last year. There is a growing need in this city as housing costs sky rocket and the gap between the rich and poor widens.  Dixon Hall is there to lend a hand so it's very important for them to raise as much money as they can for their programs.

I was very fortunate to attend their Dixonlicious 2017 event with some of my fellow Food Blogger friends.  One of my friends has been to this event before but it was new for the rest of us and we are all eager to spread the word about the great things they do and the great event that brought together very generous people who wanted to help make it a successful event.  Daniels Spectrum is a great venue and super easy to get to and reasonable parking underground too.

It's always great to attend well organized events that happen to raise money to do good things.  That's a WIN WIN for everyone.

There was live entertainment and a silent auction and a great bunch of Food Vendors and Wine and Beer vendors spread around the room.   No bunching up in a crowd trying to get food.  It was well laid out for mixing and mingling and sampling food and drink.

One of the notable dishes we all went crazy over was the Chili spring roll stuffed with cheesy goodness from Daniel et Daniel.
I was so full but they went back for seconds.

Hooked
We all really love it when the Hooked women are at all of these great Charity events because they bring delicious Oysters that are addictive.

And for the second day in a row we see our new Chef Friend Ricky Casipe from Hawthorne Food & Drink.  Ricky is a guy you want to follow because not only does he make great food but he trains future food industry workers in his Restaurant and does a lot of catering at a lot of local charity events and festivals.

There was also Longos who provided Cannoli, and George Brown College who made a couple of different dishes.  The Food Dudes made Macaroni and Cheese.

I don't know how much money they raised at the event but I hope it was a lot and I hope it brought some attention to help them receive more donations in the future.

If you can support them they have some great new ways to team up with your partner and be part of the Board of Directors with a say in what they do.

Please donate, volunteer or do whatever you can to help them out.  Every little bit helps.  I hope my little scribbles on this post inspire you to step up and do a bit of good for people that need a hand.

Green Living Preview

The 2017 Green Living Show is coming up this April 7-9, 2017 at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto and I was invited to have a sneak peek at some of the vendors and new products that will be showcased at this year's show.

I have been to the Green Living Show many times and it's one of my favourite shows because it combines my favourite thing local Restaurants and food producers with a lot of new innovative products that are made to help the environment and not hurt it.  There is something for everyone from baby clothes to cars and all sorts of products for your home and your body.  It's a one stop shop if you care about your purchases being the best they can be for you and the environment.

I will be giving away 2 pairs of tickets on my Instagram page @lindamatarasso deadline to enter will be April 3rd and winners announced April 4th.

Some of the INNOVATIVE products that I previewed included:

Ritual box (thinkahlot.com (pictured above),  it's a box with all the things you would use for your legal marijuana.  I don't know much about this but I have a feeling this might be a trendy gift item soon.  There was also Canabis products made and consultations for pain management by Tweed Main Street Shop that are made with specific medicinal strength oils that are meant to be injested or put directly on the skin.

There was also a NutriTower (nutritower.com) planter that is meant to be used inside to grow herbs and vegetables with it's own lighting system.  Grow your own food even in a small space because it's vertical growing.
There were faux rocks and planters made from Recycled Tires.  The rocks look like real rocks even.
Also on hand were:

Crazy D's All Natural Soda (crazydlabs.com) Yoga Leggings (myinnerfire.com), Lift Bike (revelo.ca), Stainless Steel Containers (dalcinistainless.com) , Healthy Dog Treats (en.wilderharrier.com),, Vita Active Kit (fitglow.ca), The Black Out Bulb (blackoutbulb.com), Vegan Cashew Cheese (zengarry.com)

You will also find out about the new Certification label (CERT CLEAN) that will indicate products tested to be clean for your body with no harm to your health.  The term Organic and natural don't mean anything in Skin Care products so this certification aims to make it easier for consumers to know which products have been verified to be safe.

There are so many products featured at the show that I can't even tell you about half of them in this post because there are just too many that you need to see to understand the benefits of the products.
There is an area just for food and drink where local restaurants, craft brewers, distillers and wineries sell small samples of their products.

The food vendors will serve flavours from all over the world some of them are:
  • Hawthorne Food & Drink
  • Pimenton
  • Santo Pecado
  • Urban Acorn Catering
  • The Magic Oven
  • TC's MOMO

Royal Tea Party Events

Who:      Royal Tea Party Events
What:     Royal Tea Party Launch
Why:      Launch of the New Tea Party Events Company
Date:      Sunday, March 26, 2017

A new company called Royal Tea Party Events launched their new company with a Free event held at the Marche on Front Street in Toronto recently.  I love Tea Party events because they are simple and inclusive.  Tea is something that people all over the world can have because it can be a simple cup of tea or a custom blended organic loose leaf tea that can be a lot more expensive.  All sorts of flavours for all sorts of occasions.  It's a very relaxing way to get together with people and talk about anything in a relaxing way.

I am no stranger to afternoon teas and Tea Parties so I was interested in this event.  There were 3 seatings which were an hour each.  A bit short but it was just a promotional launch so it was meant to showcase their Fine China and the concept of the company.  Royal Tea Party Events will bring their fine China to any location to set up a Tea Party for a group of 10-16 people.
You can have your own catering or they can arrange catering from their preferred caterer Marche.

With so many people living in small condos and not investing in fancy fine China sets it's a great way to have the experience without having to invest in the China or storage of it.

I attended with a group of my foodie friends and we used it as an excuse just to get together at a fancy quick event.  It was a lot of fun and oh so pretty.  It's a great idea for a little girl's Birthday Party or a Bridal or Baby Shower or a milestone Birthday even.  It would even be great for a corporate event to launch something important.
