NEW Kitchen Academy in Vaughan

I was invited by my friend Jenny (Fables and Focaccia) to check out a brand NEW The Kitchen Academy opened up on OCTOBER 1st, 2016 in Woodbridge to serve the needs of adults, kids and corporate needs. From Cooking Classes to Corporate Events.

The Kitchen Academy is owned by Sarah (pictured) who's family owns Continental Noodles in the same complex.  She has many years of food industry knowledge and seems to have a lot of contacts in the business with lots of chefs that will come in to teach different classes in everything from pasta making to Indian Food.  It will be for both kids and adults and will be available for corporate team building events too.

The Kitchen Academy is very sleek with also Stainless Steel appliances and the walls are white and the floors a medium woodgrain finish.  It's very neutral which will be friendly to everyone with no distinct theme in mind but a sleek modern demonstration set up.  With it set up with the stove facing rows of stainless steel tables for two and an overhead monitor to follow along while the chefs demo their food, it is perfect for everyone to see and also room on their stations for individual set ups although limited to a portable convection top but people will be able to move to the demo stove as we did when we went for a preview before it opened.

My friend Mary (Mary's Happy Belly)  and I got ready to get dirty or in this case covered in flour and dough for a pasta 101 class with a simple puttanesca sauce to top the pasta.

Chef Carla gave some food writers and friends a lesson on how to make the pasta dough from scratch and how to form it into different shapes and types of pasta.

The ingredients for the sauce were canned tomatoes, capers, parsley, garlic, anchovies and salt and pepper.  With Parmesan to top it.

I did a lot better on the sauce making since it's something I do all the time and everything was pre measured so hard to screw that up anyway.

I struggled with my machine and didn't exactly do as much as I wanted to do while others  put out some amazing things.  My friend Mary made multi colored bowties and spaghetti.  I made crescents ravioli and tagliatelle and linguine.  My tagliatelle started out as rainbow pasta but turned into a peach color.
Here's what we made and were able to eat and take home which was nice.  I used the linguini in my soup yesterday.

Mary cooked our pastas and this was the finished result which was delicious and fresh tasting. Nothing better than the pride that comes from making a whole meal from scratch using fresh ingredients.

The also have a wall of some great mostly Italian products when you walk in.
